Data Analysis and Count Map Development

TxDOT TPP's Traffic Section (TPP-T) analyzes the raw saturation counts, a quality control process that assesses each count's validity. This process results in maps that present the final traffic counts.

As part of the travel model network annotation process TPP-T develops an axle factor look-up table stratified by area type and functional classification for applying axle factors to convert the raw saturation counts to axle factored counts. Since the saturation counts are merely total axles dived by two the counts need to be axle factored to properly account for the percent of commercial vehicles within the traffic flow. The axle factored saturation counts are the counts that will be used to determine the validity of the travel model assignment process.
